In-Center Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis uses a machine to clean your blood. The dialysis machine has a filter called a dialyzer. The dialyzer works like an artificial kidney that cleans your blood by removing the wastes and the extra fluid that builds up because your kidneys are not working. Hemodialysis cannot do all of the work your kidneys did. Healthy kidneys work everyday, all day. A patient usually receives dialysis 3 times a week for about 4 hours each day. Duration is based on your individual needs and is prescribed by your doctor. During hemodialysis, your blood is carried through plastic tubes to the dialyzer and is cleaned. After it is cleaned, it is returned to your body through another plastic tube. You will need to come to an Inpatient Center at a set time to get dialysis. The staff is trained for Hemodialysis and will do your treatment for you.
